KOMANA is a collaboration of sisters Nina and Livia Henne, based in Zurich and London. We design and create fun and individual clothing and interiors, using mainly high quality organic and fairtrade materials.
HOW THEY WORK
Our fascination with Victorian oddities and iconic painters get reworked into small collections and one off items with bold and unique prints that tell a story, whilst carefully choosing organic materials and ethical production ways for the canvas of our ideas.
Our luxuriously soft t-shirts are made of high quality organic cotton, bamboo or environmental friendly Tencel fabric, all produced under high fair trade standards. All pieces are then handprinted and painted with water-based ink by ourselves in our London studio.
And since May 2013 we are very excited to team up with Tree Nation, a planting community united to fight climate change. Through Tree Nation, we are planting a tree in Dosso, Niger, for each KOMANA garment sold!
After your purchase you get an individual URL to your own tree, whose growth you can follow on the tree nation site conventionally grown cotton’s use of heavy pesticide poses a great danger to the farmers and soil. Organically grwon cotton also never uses GM seeds.
KOMANA was founded by Swiss sisters Nina, a seamstress, and Livia Henne, a print designer trained at Central St. Martins in London and is currently run by Livia and her small team in London.
The KOMANA collections are crafted using the finest, certified organic fabrics. The team spends a great deal of attention finding comfortable, unique and modern materials that are mostly fairly traded, and always certified organic.
We strongly believe in a fair living wage for all people involved in our production - from the workers field to the seamstresses! Non hazardous dyes are being used in the printroom, and any waste of paint is avoided, making sure noone is suffering along the whole supply chain!
